Robert Butter, LCSW

My background is rich in over thirty years of experience as a clinician, teacher of psychotherapists, and mental health consultant. Trained originally as a clinical social worker, I have also obtained extensive post-graduate training in psychoanalysis and psychotherapy. My work is informed by Self-Psychology, a body of theory and practice characterized by a focus from within the patient’s perspective.  I maintain private-practices in both New York City and Westchester County, New York.

Throughout my professional career, I have taken most pride in my work as a psychotherapist-clinician who serves individuals and couples. I am responsive to the variety of difficulties faced by patients who are struggling with conflicts about grief, sexuality, relationship with loved ones, indeed, the entire gamut of human experience. Utilizing the power of the therapist/client relationship, we explore the human pitfalls of shame, doubt, and uncertainty that prevent us from living a richer emotional life, and one with stronger connections to those we cherish.
